VoyageKC Magazine interview with Ryan Lengyel

VoyageKC Magazine Interview – March 30, 2023

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Lengyel.

Hi Ryan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have worked in and been part of the construction industry for most of my life, whether it was hanging out in my grandpa’s construction office or driving around to look at his job sites, working as a general laborer during summers, or working in the building materials sector for nearly 4 years after college. Construction is in my blood, always has been, and always will be. In 2015, we identified a need for a quality and transparent property maintenance provider, and then CRG was born. We focused primarily on maintenance calls for retail buildings, offices, and warehouses for the first few years. We completed tasks such as parking lot repairs, painting, adjusting doors, and repairing roof leaks. In 2018, we were fortunate enough to be awarded our first tenant finish project, which would change the projection and direction of CRG as we knew it. Since CRG’s founding, we have built amazing relationships with our clients, contractors, and vendors. We look forward to continuing our climb up the ladder to becoming one of the top commercial General Contractors in Kansas City.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every road is never smooth. Like most companies, we fought through the growing pains and struggles of starting and maintaining a new business. We had to work through the pandemic in 2020, like the rest of the world, while focusing on keeping our entire staff employed full-time. But our biggest struggle to date is keeping up with the ever-changing expectations and changes in the commercial construction industry. There is a new change being implemented by some governing entity all of the time, which forces us to stay on our toes and adjust so we can continue on our path of success and growth.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
CRG is a Kansas City-based general contracting company founded in 2015 committed to building dreams through integrity, quality construction, and innovation.

Our core services consist of the following:
– Property Maintenance
– Tenant Finishes
– Redevelopment
– New Construction

We provide the skill and quality craftsmanship that only comes with years of experience. We uniquely treat every client’s needs and wants, which carries through to our concepts and designs. Our core values are etched in every project we work on.
– Integrity
– Accountable
– Innovative
– Respect
– Commitment
– Teamwork
– Diversity

We treat every project and client with the same professionalism, dedication, and respect, from the smallest project to a complete renovation.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The pandemic was an exciting time for us. While we saw several of our peers struggle or even close their doors, we got busier. Our staff maintained a full-time workload and compensation, which we are proud of. The pandemic also taught us how to succeed with less. What I mean by that is labor availability became an issue and still is today. This forced us to change our approach to hiring quality individuals and spend more time training and developing our staff. This was the same story for construction materials not being available and more expensive than what we had been accustomed to. Instead of using that as an excuse to charge more money or push back the completion of our projects, we used our knowledge and experience to work around those issues and keep our clients happy.
